Since the 1980 s Becher School is a photography school with extraordinaryinfluence. In 1976, Bernd Becher was appointed as the first professionalphotographers at Dusseldorf national art academy, in the later teaching career, Berndand his wife, Hilla Becher and their students gradually created Becher School, including so many famous contemporary photographers, such as Thomas Struth,Andres Guski and Thomas Ruff. Basing on the image analysis and literature research, this paper analyzes and studies the photography and styles of Bernd and Hilla Becherand their disciples, in order to do a better understand of Becher School's Typology.
Three main parts are as follows:
Chapter one is the study about the from of Becher School's typology, includingthe overview of Bernd and Hilla Becher and their Becher School, the theoreticalcontext and theoretical significance of Becher School, the social context and socialsignificance of Becher School and the concept of Becher School.
Chapter two points out the style of Becher School from the comparison betweenBecher School's typology and traditional typology, the influence on the direction ofhistory and the development and style of Becher School.
Chapter three is mainly about the creative practice and analysis based on BecherSchool's typology. Becher School's technique of shooting gives me a lot of inspirationof creation that Bernd and Hilla Becher and their disciples used large format camerafor recording. I am keen on the traditional photography technology. Although we cansee the imaged right now in the traditional photography technology, we can learnthinking and learn to appreciate the creative process.
In a word, as a photography in the specific historical condition, Becher School isclosely related the whole social politics, economy and culture. Based on the formerresearch achievements, they has created a more complete and comprehensive BecherSchool's typology, such as the topic of photography, the choice of photographytechnique and the representation of the works. As it were, Becher School's typology, not only provides a practical example for photography technique innovation, but alsorecorded the human cultural history in certain period, such as the industrial landscapeof Mr. Bernd and Hilla Becher and Andres Guski's the image of globalization thatthey skillfully combined the documentary photography's objective feelings andphotographers' subjective expressions together with artistic. The analysis and study ofthe form and style of Becher School's typology is helpful for us to better understandand apply the photography technique of typology and gives full play to the charm ofphotography art.
