本刊是由中国医学科学院编辑和出版的高级综合性医学刊物。目前为季刊，64页，大16开本。本刊旨在向国外介绍中国在医学科学方面所取得的成果（包括基础医学及临床医学），以促进国际间的学术交流。本刊设有述评、论著、综述、短篇报道、研究简讯、会议报道等栏目。编委会由国内著名的医学研究所及大学的近四十名专家组成，另外尚有17名国际编委。
